X-15A-2 ‘White Ablative Coating’

Model of a 1960s hypersonic aircraft which, until today, holds the world’s speed record for the fastest manned plane. It was also the first aircraft to reach the altitude regarded as the boundary between the earth atmosphere and the outer space. Knowledge gained during the development of the X-15 and the test flights was substantial for the Apollo programme and aero and space research.

This reissue offers the X-15A-2 as it looked before its final flight when W.J. ‘Pete’ Knight reached the world speed record. The kit can be built on the transport cart or even put on a stand in a flight configuration with the dummy ram jet under the fin. It was powered by 1000 HP petroleum motors on the surface and by 1160 HP electric motors whilesubmerged. With these U9 can speed up to 14.2 knots above water and 8.1 knots under water.Armament consisted of six torpedoes that could be fired through two bow and two stern tubes.

The U9 was commissioned as the first ship in its class in July 1908 and launched in February 1910.On September 22nd, 1914 U9 sank the three British armoredcruisers HMS Aboukir, HMS Hogue and HMS Cressy one after the other and on October 15th the British armored cruiser HMS Hawke under thecommand of Kapitänleutnant Otto Weddigen. 1/32 Fokker Dr.I Triplane

1/32 Fokker Dr.I Triplane

But even in the sky, there was a dominator. From time to time, the specially shaped German triplanes appeared and dogfighted with British and French planes. Among those German triplanes, one red aircraft stood out in the blue sky. By flying excellent maneuvers, this red triplane could always defeat those British and French aircraft which tried to shoot it down. The red triplane was the dominator of the sky, and its pilot called “Red Baron”.

The red triplane flown by Manfred von Richthofen, the “Red Baron”, was a Fokker Dr.I triplane produced by the Fokker company in 1917. Its three wings were arranged in order from top to bottom with the wing areas reduced sequentially. In this way, the triplane could get more lift than biplanes and monoplanes and wouldn’t suffer too much drag. Most metal bracing wires were hidden inside the aircraft to further reduce the drag. Two MG08 air-cooled machine guns with synchronization gear were installed in front of the cockpit. Its firepower was far better than the British triplanes.

We know that you have been waiting for a carefully studied large scale Fokker Dr.I model kit with precise details for a long time. Now your wishes come true as the latest MENG QS-002 Fokker Dr.I Triplane model kit will be available soon.
