1/72 Vickers Vildebeest Mk.IV Perseus Engine Vers
The 1/72 Vickers Vildebeest Mk.IV (Perseus Engine Version) model by Special Hobby is a torpedo and bomber aircraft of the British Royal Air Force with Bristol Perseus radial engine. The kit features detailed plastic parts, cockpit and decals for the late variants deployed in the Far East. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Vickers Vildebeest Mk.IV was the final version of the British biplane torpedo bomber of the 1930s. It was powered by a Bristol Perseus radial engine instead of the original Napier Lion in-line engine. The change in powerplant improved flight characteristics and maintenance, and although the aircraft was technically obsolete at the outbreak of World War II, it remained in service due to a shortage of more modern types.
The Mk.IV was deployed primarily in the Far East, serving with RAF squadrons in Singapore, Malaya and India. The Vildebeest machines took part in defensive operations against the Japanese invasion, often in difficult conditions and with minimal chance of survival against modern Japanese fighters. Yet these machines symbolise the courage of RAF crews in unequal combat.
The Special Hobby 1/72 Vickers Vildebeest Mk.IV faithfully captures the shapes and details of this unusual combination of biplane and radial engine. The kit includes a finely detailed cockpit, fuselage, landing gear and armament. Included are decals for aircraft deployed in the Far East with distinctive RAF tropical markings.
The model is suitable for those interested in British aircraft of the inter-war period and the early stages of the Pacific War.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
