The SAAB SK-37 Viggen was a trainer version of the Swedish Viggen multirole supersonic aircraft, which had been in service with Flygvapnet since the 1970s. The SK-37 was developed to train pilots of all Viggen variants - fighter, reconnaissance and attack. The aircraft retained the same flight characteristics as the operational variants, but was equipped with a second cockpit for the instructor.
Due to its advanced design with a delta wing and forward horizontal surfaces, the Viggen was considered one of the most advanced aircraft of its time. The SK-37 played a key role in maintaining a high level of training for Swedish pilots and remained in service until the advent of the JAS 39 Gripen type.
