1/72 Seafire Mk.Ib

The Supermarine Seafire was a British single-seat fighter developed during World War II. It was a type directly derived from the famous Supermarine Spitfire fighter. At the beginning of World War II, the main fighter type Fleet Air Arm (FAA - British Naval Air Force) was a two-seater Fairey Fulmar, because the Admiralty was convinced that the aircraft operating from the ship needs a second crew member to operate the radio station.

However, as it turned out later, single-seat machines are also capable of deployment from aircraft carriers and can better face enemy fighters. The Admiralty decided to address the current shortage of such machines by modifying the existing ground types, and so in addition to the Hawker Hurricanes, it also asked for the Supermarine Spitfire. The development itself began in 1941, when several Spitfires Mk.Vb were modified by stopping the landing hook and catapult mounts, the first of which was flown in October 1941 and the other two took off in early 1942. These aircraft mostly had no additional naval equipment and were used as training. .
