The Messerschmitt Bf 109E-1/B represents one of the first production versions of the iconic Luftwaffe fighter aircraft, equipped with a light bomb bay for attacks on ground targets. The E-1 version with MG 17 machine guns was converted in 1940 to the E-1/B subversion, which could carry smaller bombs and was deployed during the so-called "Blitz". It was used in the "Hit and Run" raids - quick strikes on southern England after the main phase of the Battle of Britain was over.
These operations were designed to damage infrastructure and demoralize the British population, with fighters like the Bf 109E-1/B acting as improvised fighter-bombers. The aircraft took off from occupied France and often operated alone or in small groups.
Special Hobby's 1/72nd Bf 109E-1/B 'Hit and Run Raiders' kit delivers a detailed kit with fine paneling, realistic cockpit, landing gear and bomb bay. Included are decals for Luftwaffe machines operating over Britain in 1940-41, including attractive markings and camouflage.
The model will delight fans of the early stages of WWII and German tactics of air raids on British territory.
The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
