1/72 Junkers Ju 87D-5/N/D-8 ‘Night Attack Stukas’
Special Hobby's 1/72nd scale model of the Junkers Ju 87D-5/N/D-8 'Night Attack Stukas' is a late version of the legendary German dive bomber designed for night attack operations. The kit features detailed plastic parts, armament, cockpit and decals for the night variants of the Ju 87. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
The Junkers Ju 87, known as the Stuka, became a symbol of dive bombing during World War II. The D-5 version was equipped with a longer wing, heavier armour and MG 151/20 guns. In an effort to extend its operational use, some of these aircraft were modified for night attacks, resulting in the D-5/N and D-8 variants.
These modifications included black camouflage, muffled exhausts, and navigation modifications for flying in the dark. In this role, the Ju 87 operated primarily on the Eastern Front against Soviet targets, often as part of improvised night fighter formations. Although it was already an obsolete type, it still had some effectiveness in night mission conditions due to its accuracy in attacking soft targets and poorly protected positions.
The Special Hobby 1/72 Ju 87D-5/N/D-8 'Night Attack Stukas' offers variants for building three versions of the night Stukas - including modifications for night operations, detailed cockpit, armament and exhaust screens. Included are decals for several machines deployed in night missions, particularly on the Eastern Front.
The model will be especially appreciated by fans of special and lesser known modifications of German Luftwaffe aircraft from the end of the war.
