1/72 Heinkel He 162A Spatz ‘Captured Birds’ – This model represents the German jet fighter aircraft Heinkel He 162A, commonly known as the "Salamander." Developed in 1944 as an emergency project by the Luftwaffe, the aircraft aimed to be a simple and cost-effective jet fighter that could be mass-produced. It entered service in early 1945 and, despite its limited deployment, became one of the fastest aircraft of its time, capable of reaching speeds of up to 800 km/h (497 mph).
The He 162A featured a unique design, including a wooden airframe and a BMW 003 jet engine mounted above the fuselage. Although plans for mass production were ambitious, only a limited number of aircraft were completed by the war’s end. This edition allows for the construction of aircraft captured by the Allies, which were subsequently used for testing and analysis in the post-war aviation industry.
