1/72 Anniversery of F-15C Eagle Limited Edition - "45 Years in Europe"
Designed as the U.S. Navy's primary aircraft, the F-14 Tomcat could perform air superiority, escort, and evasiveand was undoubtedly one of the finest and most technologically advanced aircraft to serve aboard aircraft carriers. The prototype machine was flown on 21 December 1970 and the first aircraft were delivered to the US Navy four years later. The last Tomcat aircraft were retired from service in 2006, which perfectly demonstrates the high quality and outstanding performance of this machine. The most innovative and characteristic design for the F-14 is the variable geometry wing. Controlled by computer or manually by the pilot, they can vary the angle of attack from 20 degrees at minimum speed to 60 degrees at supersonic speed. The variable geometry of the wings also allows for optimum attitude during tight maneuvering, giving this powerful aircraft amazing maneuverability. At the heart of the Tomcat's weapon system is the Hughes ANG-9 radar, which typically works with AIM-54A Phoenix air-to-air missiles with a range of up to 180 km. Of particular importance is the ability to fly and engage more than one target. An equally important element of the armament, as combat experience in the Vietnam War has shown, is the F-14's M-61 Vulcan cannon mounted inside the fuselage, firing up to 6,000 rounds per minute! The Tomcat could of course be equipped with other weapons such as Sparrow missiles, Sidewinder missiles and various bombs. The F-14 owed its success primarily to its superior powerplant in the form of a pair of Pratt-Whitney TF30 engines with 9300 daN thrust and afterburners. Technical data: maximum speed: 2480 km/h, climb rate: 153 m/s, practical ceiling: 17100 m, maximum range: 3,200 km, armament: fixed - one M61-A1 20 mm hexagonal cannon, suspended - up to 6,580 kg cargo.
