The Northrop P-61B "Black Widow" was the first American aircraft designed specifically for night fighter operations. The P-61B version was equipped with an advanced radar system, the SCR-720C, which enabled the detection of enemy aircraft at night and in poor weather conditions. The aircraft was armed with four 20mm Hispano M2 cannons and four 12.7mm M2 Browning machine guns, giving it considerable firepower.
Great Wall Hobby's 1/48 scale kit offers modelers the opportunity to build this important aircraft in detail. The package includes precision-machined plastic parts for both the exterior and interior, including a detailed cockpit with instrument panels, seats and controls. The model also includes detailed landing gear shafts, radar equipment and armament.
The kit also includes decals for several versions of USAAF camouflage, including the "Lady in the Dark" markings for the aircraft, which is famous for its last shoot-down in 1945. This aircraft, belonging to the 548th Night Fighter Squadron, is believed to be the machine that made the last Allied kill during World War II.
The high level of detail and precision craftsmanship make this model ideal for modelers interested in historic WWII military aircraft. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
