1/48 Seafire Mk.15 ‘FAA & RCN Service’
Model Seafire Mk.15 Special Hobby's 'FAA & RCN Service' 1/48 scale model represents the British Spitfire-based deck fighter that served with the Fleet Air Arm and Canadian Naval Air Forces after WWII. The kit features detailed plastic parts and decals for both British and Canadian machines. The package does not include the paint or glue needed for assembly.
Supermarine Seafire Mk.15 was the first mass-produced naval variant of the Griffon-powered Spitfire, built in the post-war period for the British Fleet Air Arm (FAA). The aircraft was fitted with a reinforced undercarriage, a folding wing and a landing hook for operation from aircraft carriers. With its powerful engine and manoeuvrability, the Seafire Mk.15 was a capable adversary in the maritime environment, although it suffered from some structural fragility on harder landings.
Aircraft of this type were deployed during the Malayan and Korean conflicts and also entered the armament of the Canadian Naval Air Force (RCN), which operated them from the aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent. The Seafire Mk.15 thus represented a transition between conventional piston fighters and the advent of jet aviation aboard aircraft carriers.
The Special Hobby 1/48 Seafire Mk.15 'FAA & RCN Service' offers a detailed kit with a realistic cockpit, landing gear and fuselage and wing structure. Included are decals for both British and Canadian Naval Aviation machines, giving a choice of attractive camouflages.
The package does not include the paints or glues needed for assembly.
