The Messerschmitt Bf-109 is a German, single-engine, metal-framed, low-winged, tailplane. It turned out to be the basic and the most widely produced fighter of the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. The prototype was flown on 29 May 1935, and serial production lasted from 1936 to 1945. It is estimated that in total about 35,000 Messerschmitt Bf-109 fighters of all varieties were produced, many of which went to the Czech and Israeli air forces after the war. The roots of the Bf-109 go back to a competition announced by the Luftwaffe in 1933 for a new mylium aircraft. In competition with the He-112, the Bf-109 project initially lost, but thanks to the intrigues of Willie Messerschmitt the project could be continued and eventually it became the winner of the competition, becoming the basic Luftwaffe fighter. Several major variants of the Bf-109 aircraft were developed in the course of production. The first pre-production series was the Bf-109B (Berta) with various versions of the Junkers Jumo 210 engine (A or Da). These were tested in Spain from 1937 during the Civil War. Another version was the Bf-109C (Caesar). They had a different engine from the B version, and extended armament consisting of two 20mm cannons and 2 km cal.7.92mm. These machines also fought in the skies of Spain. The third version was Bf-109D (Dora) with an engine Junkers Jumo 210 Da or Daimler-Benz DB 600. It fought in the September campaign, but at the turn of 1939/1940 it was replaced by the E version. The most famous model was Bf-109E (Emil) with the engine Daimler-Benz 601A or N. It was the first model to use a three-blade rather than a two-blade flicker. Bf-109Es fought in the French campaign, over England and in North Africa and on the Eastern Front. The ace who started his career with the Bf-109E was the famous Adolf Galland. The next version was the Bf-109F (Friedrich), which according to German pilots was the most perfect aerodynamically. It had a modified fuselage, wings and cabin fairing, but no new engine. It was introduced into service at the turn of 1940/1941. As part of the development of the design, further specifications of the Bf-109 were developed, of which version G (Gustav) was produced in the largest number of copies. The most significant change increasing the performance of the machine was the installation of a new 12-cylinder Daimler-Benz DB605A engine with 1475 HP. The Bf-109G was armed with a pair of 13mm machine guns located in the fuselage in front of the cockpit fairing, and a 20mm MG151 or heavier MK108 30mm cannon. The last mass-produced version was the Bf-109K (Kurfirst), whose production started in October 1944. The engine used was the Daimler-Benz DB 605DB or DC. The Bf-109K was the fastest version produced during the Second World War, reaching up to 730km/h. In addition, two versions, H and Z, were built, but these were rather experimental and their large-scale production did not start. Further improvements in the field of propulsion and armament made the Messerschmitt Bf-109 one of the most powerful fighters of the Second World War, and at the same time showed the enormous potential of the somewhat angular airframe created by Willie Messerschmitt. Technical data (Bf-109 G-6 version): length: 8.95m, wingspan: 9.92m, height: 2.6m, top speed: 640km/h, climb speed: 17m/s, maximum range: 850km, maximum ceiling: 12000m, armament: fixed - 2 machine guns MG131 cal.13mm and 1 cannon MG151 cal.20mm , suspended-250kg bombs, or 2 missile launchers Wfr. Gr. 21.
