1/48 AJ-37 Viggen ‘Strike Fighter’
Special Hobby's 1/48th scale model of the AJ-37 Viggen 'Strike Fighter' is a Swedish supersonic multirole aircraft designed for strike operations. The AJ-37 served as the main strike type of the Swedish Air Force during the Cold War. The kit features detailed plastic parts, a realistic cockpit and decals for the Flygvapnet machines. The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
The SAAB AJ-37 Viggen was a high-end strike aircraft developed in Sweden for Flygvapnet as a successor to the Saab 32 Lansen. The aircraft was designed for low-level penetrations and attacks on targets behind the front line - airfields, radars, bridges or ground troops. The AJ-37 was the first variant of the Viggen and featured a unique design with a delta wing and forward horizontalcanards, which provided excellent maneuverability and short takeoff and landing (STOL) capability.
The aircraft was powered by a Swedish RM8A engine (licensed from Pratt & Whitney), equipped with a thrust reverser for operation from field airfields. The AJ-37 carried a wide range of armament, from bombs and missiles to electronic jamming systems. It entered service in 1971 and remained the Swedish Air Force's main tactical type until the advent of the JAS 39 Gripen.
The Special Hobby 1/48 AJ-37 Viggen 'Strike Fighter' offers a highly detailed kit with an exact replica of the cockpit, fuselage, landing gear and underwing armament. The surface of the kit faithfully captures the paneling and characteristic shapes of this aircraft. Included are decals for several Swedish Air Force machines, including the typical Swedish "pixel" camouflage.
This model is ideal for fans of Scandinavian aviation, the Cold War and unusual aircraft designs.
The package does not include paint or glue needed for assembly.
