The Volkswagen Type 230 with a gas generator was one of the improvised propulsion solutions during the fuel shortages of World War II. Based on the Kübelwagen type, this car was equipped with a wood gas generator that allowed the combustion engine to be powered by an alternative fuel. Although it was an emergency solution with limited power and range, cars with gas generatorstors were used both in the rear and by units in the field, especially in the later years of the war.
