The T-34-85 version with the D-5T gun was the first mass-produced variant of the modernized T-34 tank, which entered service in the spring of 1944. It was produced at plant no. 112 "Krasnoye Sormovo", this version represented a major improvement over the earlier T-34/76 - especially thea new turret with better protection and a more powerful gun that was capable of facing German Tigers and Panthers. This particular variant with the D-5T gun was produced only briefly before it was replaced by a version with the ZiS-S-53 gun.
