The Flettner Fl 282 Kolibri was one of the first truly operational helicopters with coaxial rotors, designed in Germany during World War II. The V-21 version was a reconnaissance and communications type, designed primarily for naval and artillery observation. The helicopter was designed to be easily transported and operated from ship decks and small airfields.
Propulsion was provided by a BMW 132 engine, which drove the counter-rotating rotors without the need for a tail rotor. Although it was an extremely advanced type, its deployment was limited due to the small number of units produced and the complex wartime development.
