The Spitfire Mk.IXc was created as a response to the German Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters that began to dominate the airspace in 1942. With a Rolls-Royce Merlin Series 60 engine, it achieved excellent flight performance at all altitudes.and was successfully deployed both in the defence of British airspace and in offensive operations over occupied Europe.
