1/72 SMB-2 Super Mystere ‘Sambad’
This 1/72nd scale kit of the French SMB-2 Super Mystère 'Sambad' jet fighter offers modelers a detailed treatment of this historically significant aircraft, which became the first mass-produced supersonic fighter in Western Europe.
The SMB-2 Super Mystère, developed by Dassault Aviation, was the first mass-produced supersonic fighter aircraft in horizontal flight in Western Europe. After the introduction of the more modern Mirage III aircraft, the Super Mystère was reassigned to fighter-bomber units, where it served for a long period. SMB-2s were also exported to Israel, where they proved their worth in combat against Arab odds. After the Mirage III fighters were delivered, they were used as fighter-bombers in Israel and were modified by installing the American Pratt & Whitney J52-P8A engine. After being retired from the Israeli Air Force, the remaining SMB-2s were delivered to Honduras, where they served until the mid-1990s.
This 1/72 scale kit offers a highly detailed model of the SMB-2 Super Mystère 'Sambad'. It includes mouldings for both engine variants, making it possible to build the model in either the French or Israeli version. Also included are decals for various interesting camouflages, including Israeli versions of the Sa'ar. Modelers will appreciate the precision workmanship of the parts and the opportunity to reproduce in detail this important aircraft, which played a key role in the aviation history of several countries.
