The Gloster Meteor Mk.4 was one of the first mass-produced jet fighters in the world. Developed during the Second World War, it served in many countries around the world after the end of the war. The Mk.4 version was upgraded with more powerful Rolls-Royce Derwent 5 engines and an improved fuselage and wing design.
Argentina became one of the few users of the Meteor outside Europe. In 1947 it ordered several dozen Mk.4s, which formed the backbone of the Fuerza Aérea Argentina jet fighter force. The Meteor Mk.4 flew in Argentine colours until the 1960s and was deployed even during the internal political turmoil, becoming an important part of South American military aviation history.
