The Lysander was renowned for its ability to operate from short and improvised airstrips, often serving in covert missions and resistance supply drops. The kit does not include paints or glue required for assembly.
The 1/48 scale Westland Lysander Mk.I/Mk.III model by Airfix is a highly detailed replica of one of the most unique aircraft of World War II. Developed in the 1930s, the Lysander was originally designed as a reconnaissance and liaison aircraft. However, with its large wings, robust landing gear, and ability to take off and land on short, unprepared airstrips, it became an ideal choice for covert operations carried out by the Special Operations Executive (SOE), particularly in supporting resistance movements across occupied Europe.
The Mk.I and Mk.III variants featured improved aerodynamics, more powerful engines, and the ability to carry armaments, including machine guns and light bombs. The Lysander served not only with the RAF but also in Canada, India, and other Allied nations.
This model kit offers a faithfully recreated cockpit and authentic RAF markings. Paints and glue required for assembly are not included in the kit.
