The Bell AH-1 Cobra was the first dedicated attack helicopter developed for the US Army. The AH-1Q version was one of the first variants adapted to guide TOW anti-tank missiles, while later AH-1S introduced a more powerful engine, better crew protection and upgraded fire control systems. Both versions served as key assets against armoured targets, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s.
As part of military cooperation, the AH-1S was also transferred to the Turkish Army, where it served in active service until the 21st century. The machines bore specific camouflage and markings and were deployed in both combat and NATO exercises.
